How will I know the difference my gift has made?
Step produces an annual Impact Report which is sent to donors in the fall. The report details program outcomes and the economic return on investment for every dollar donated. Additionally, testimonials by men in the program and by Step alumni are shared with donors throughout the year.
-
How is Step funded?
In the best interest of our men, we do not accept government funding, which is why gifts from donors like you are so important to us. Step is entirely supported by individuals, corporate partners, and private foundations. This allows us the freedom to make all program decisions based on what is best for our residents—not what is dictated by a state or federal funding source.
-
Whom do I contact if I have a question about giving or in order to donate over the phone?
Please reach out to our Mission Advancement Officer, Jaime McMullen Garcia. She can be reached at 719.457.0533 or jgarcia@stepsprings.org
-
Can I take a tour?
Yes. We welcome visitors, and you can schedule a tour by emailing jgarcia@stepsprings.org. Out of respect for our men, tours of their home are only conducted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
-
Can I volunteer?
Unfortunately, no. Because our program is focused on residents achieving self-sufficiency and learning to care for themselves, their home, and their fellow residents, we do not have traditional volunteer opportunities. We do, however, have other ways for you to take action and help support Step.
-
Why do you only serve men?
In the latest Point in Time count of the unsheltered in Colorado Springs, 75% were male – the majority struggling with addiction. Since its founding, Step has been committed to and focused on having an impact where there is the most need, which for our mission happens to be serving men. In doing so, we find that the ripple impact extends into families and ultimately affects the mothers, sisters, wives, and children of our residents and alumni. When women contact Step asking for help, they are referred to trusted partners in the community.
-
What is your annual operating budget?
Step Springs’s operating budget for the Fiscal Year beginning July 1, 2024 and ending June 30, 2025 is just over $200,000 as we prepare for opening in Fall of 2025.
The capital budget for the new Colorado Springs facility is $6.5M.
-
Do you meet nonprofit financial efficiency standards?
Because Step Springs is new, we do not have this data yet but data is available for Step Denver.
According to Charity Navigator’s Performance Metric for Administrative Expense Percentage: Step Denver scores 7.5 out of 10 and is 1% point from a 10/10 nonprofit efficiency rating.
According to Charity Watch’s Fundraising Efficiency Rating (cost to raise a dollar): Step Denver scores an A (or Excellent) for monetary fundraising efficiency.
We take these metrics seriously and are continuously evaluating to ensure every dollar donated has the maximum direct impact on the lives of our men.
