We recently sat down with Jerome to talk about what brought him to Step Springs — and what finally pushed him to choose a different path.

“My drinking got so bad I started having seizures. I thought I was the strongest person mentally on the face of the earth… but alcohol had me drowning. I ended up in the hospital, and I had to make a decision.”

Jerome walked into detox to clear the fog — and that’s where something unexpected caught his eye:

“I saw a brochure for Step. It stood out more than anything else — the structure, the stats, the fact that it was men‑only. Something about it grabbed me.”

He’s now 25 days sober, and this time, the choice was entirely his:

“This wasn’t court‑ordered. Nobody made me come here. I walked in because I needed help, and I couldn’t do it by myself.”

What he found here surprised him:

“The community is amazing. The staff get it — they’ve lived it. Everyone supports each other. I’m blessed they accepted me.”

And he has a message for anyone still trying to fight this battle alone:

“I wouldn’t be where I am today — or this happy — without Step and the people here who understand exactly what I’m going through.”

Jerome’s journey is a reminder that real strength isn’t white‑knuckling it alone — it’s choosing connection, choosing support, and choosing a future you can actually build on.
